After winning gold the day before in the pursuit, Alexandre Léauté had to settle for bronze in the Men's 1000m C1-C3 time trial, despite a new world record on Saturday at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome.

Despite setting a world record in his category in the final (1:04.207) after the one he beat in the morning during qualifying (1:04.279), Léauté, 23, did less well than his two Chinese rivals in the C1 category, Weicong Liang, second, and Zhangyu Li, who was crowned Paralympic champion in the discipline.

The Frenchman is competing in the C2 category, which includes riders suffering from hemiplegia or riding with only one leg, but as part of the against the clock, he lines up against competitors in categories C1 (more severe damage) and C3 (milder damage). Times are subject to coefficients in order to guarantee fairness between opponents.

For example, his actual time on the track was reduced to 94.50% of its duration, while that of the two Chinese, affected by a more severe handicap, was recalculated at 92.01% of its value.
