Deuxième du classement général des rallyes WRC, le Britannique Elfyn Evans s'est manqué lors d'un virage et a terminé dans une grange, samedi 28 octobre lors du Rallye d'Europe centrale en Allemagne.

Finland's Kalle Rovanperä's final rival for the WRC world rally title, Evans (Toyota) skidded and hit a barn while competing in the 11th special stage and was third overall behind leader Rovanperä, also in a Toyota, and Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai).

The accident virtually handed the title to reigning champion Kalle Rovanperä, who currently leads the standings with a 31-point lead over Evans.

A slim hope remains for Evans

The maximum number of points a driver can score in a round is 30 and after the Central Europe Rally, there is only one left to go until Japan in mid-November.

If, however, Evans' car could be repaired, he could take part in the “Power Stage” on Sunday, the final special stage of the rally, where the top five finishers score points. He would then have a very slim chance of winning the title if Rovanperä were to retire before the end of the Central Europe Rally on Sunday.
