If you have chapped lips, this new makeup trend might just help. The new “Beetlejuice lips” trend embraces lip imperfections and is taking TikTok by storm. The goal ? Recreate the look of the iconic Beetlejuice character's striped costume on your own lips.

Celebrate imperfections. That's the goal of this new makeup trend that's brightening up TikTok ahead of Halloween. Following the release of the movie “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” by Tim Burton, starring iconic actors Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O'Hara, the cult character's black and white striped suit look has inspired many makeup lovers on the platform.

The goal is simple: recreate lip makeup that mimics the stripes on Beetlejuice's costume, while emphasizing his cracks. Beauty content creator Adrianna Kalisz started the trend with a video that has racked up 43.8 million views and nearly 5 million likes. In the video, the creator applies a green liquid eyeshadow to her lips, then puckers them to create natural creases before carefully applying a black eyeshadow. Once the lips are released, a green and black zebra pattern appears, reminiscent of the patterns on Beetlejuice's costume. This technique was initially popularized by Portuguese designer Luara Reisinger, then dubbed "zebra lips".

Since then, this new “trend” has been going viral online and has been picked up by many content creators, all set to the song “Say My Name” from the musical “Beetlejuice”. Some users have applied this technique with other eyeshadow colors.

More than just another makeup trend on the Chinese platform, the “Beetlejuice Lips” technique normalizes facial imperfections and goes against the aesthetic trend of “lip fillers”, injections that increase and smooth the lips. And for good reason, it does not work on a luscious and well-hydrated mouth, without cracks. The folds created are not large enough to obtain well-defined stripes.

To the great displeasure of beauty content creators and to the great delight of users who do not hesitate to have fun with it, like the creator Helayna Shelton. The latter shared her feelings: “My new guilty pleasure is watching beauty influencers with too much lip filler try Beetlejuice lips”.

A video liked by nearly two million people on TikTok and viewed 15.2 million times. The makeup artist also mentions the case of the famous influencer Jeffree Star whose video was viewed more than 31 million times and generated 2 million likes. A more than failed attempt. Under her video, a user named Gabby commented:  "I think it's because you have injections, so your lip lines aren't as deep and obvious!" A comment liked by over 443,300 users.
