Agde: in the city center, parking and works do not go well together

At the bottom of the Promenade, rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau symbolizes the inconvenience linked to the construction site. FREE MIDI – MICHEL DESNOS

The meeting of the neighborhood committee which took place Monday evening attests to this. While in recent years, questions have mainly focused on security and traffic in the heart of the city, it is the huge construction site in the neighborhood which this time invited itself into the debates.

In other times, we would have mainly heard about insecurity, urban rodeos, drug trafficking. But Monday evening, at the Moulin des évêques, on the occasion of the second public meeting of the neighborhood committees which this time concerned the right bank sector – heart of the city, we talked a lot, a lot about the work carried out in the historic center, on and around the Promenade in particular, and the parking problems that result from it.

Parking in the city center has become complicated

For three hours (!), Sébastien Frey, 1st deputy of the city of Agde, responded with pedagogy and a lot of patience to the remarks of local residents who, for some, did not understand can visibly more! Like this resident of rue Torte, a private street, who no longer has access to this artery because of the work on rue Rousseau."Parking our cars has become impossible, but as soon as we park a little badly nearby, the police fine us. I have already had to pay a fine of 135 euros." Rue du Peyrou, in front of the Perléa residence, it’s a neo- agathoise who says she has difficulty getting into her garage "because vehicles are parked on the yellow lines which delimit this access." She takes advantage of the platform to also castigate "the cars that drive at high speed and the lack of civility of people. I find that it’s very dirty." The opportunity for Sébastien Frey to remind us that for cleanliness, & ;quot;the services concerned come by regularly, but we are dealing with people who respect nothing! Regarding inconvenient parking, the police will come by and do their job."

The fire in the Les Halles car park: one tile

River of rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau, inaccessible to cars, lawyer Liliane Surjous also regrets not being able to take advantage of her garage "and having to run to the cinema parking lot to find a place." A little further on, there was the fire in the Les Halles parking lot, in beginning of the year, ten years to the day after a first disaster, which deprived residents of parking spaces. We are asking the question of its rehabilitation, which will not be the case, the entire Notre-Dame islet having to be rehabilitated by a private operator. A sum of inconveniences which generates discontent. But as Sébastien Frey explains, "when we undertake such work, there are of course disadvantages during the construction period." Construction site still far from being completed.c'
