An afternoon to bring caregivers from the shadows into the light, in Frontignan

Precious supporters of loved ones facing illness, loss of autonomy or disability, caregivers were entitled to a national day, this Friday, October 4. The City of Frontignan joined in.

The City of Frontignan and its CCAS joined in by organizing, in the middle of Blue Week, an afternoon of information, activities and discussions at the MDR Solidarity Café, which adjoins the Anatole-France retirement home. Many partners had joined the operation, “in support of people feeling the need to be heard or helped” : the associations L’Écoutille, France Alzheimer, Les Petits frères des pauvres, Vibration.

A teacher of adapted physical activity in nursing homes, Julien Azémard offered an introduction to Qwan Ki Do, a Sino-Vietnamese martial art. In total, six workshops allowed for discussion and a friendly time.

“An important role”

The caregivers went to the aptly named Café solidaire to combine business with pleasure. Or just for the sake of business.“I came to see if we could get more support. The days are long. There are no holidays…", says Nathalie, caregiver to her 90-year-old mother.

“The role of caregivers is very important, recalls David Jardon, elected delegate for public health. Our primary mission is information, prevention, cross-functional connections between health professionals, retirement homes, the population…

Support and promotion of the work of caregivers is not a luxury. And which will not be a waste of time: the initiative should be repeated in the coming years.

Health Forum, Colon tour…

The creation, during the Covid crisis, of a health delegation within the City's Social Action Center (CCAS) led to the establishment of several new meetings in Frontignan. A first Health Forum was thus created in April. Its success will be worth the organization of other editions. Next month, the Colon tour, a prevention, information and awareness campaign for colorectal cancer screening, is announced for the Salle de l'Aire.
