An association to respond to and prevent the risks linked to concussions in sport

Created in March 2023, the Concussion Alert association attempts to help victims of concussions but also to inform amateur athletes.

Lawyer specializing in sports law, Antoine Semeria observed that"the medical monitoring of employers is not always followed in the context of concussions but also that there was a abandonment of concussed players. I met victims in a fairly pronounced state of isolation and despair in relation to an often invisible pathology."

This is one of the reasons why he created the Concussion Alert association, in March 2023. "In the amateur environment, there are has a real problem in the context of human aid for all these athletes who have no solutions and find themselves isolated. It can create family misunderstanding."

A meeting for clubs and amateur athletes

Tuesday April 9, at 8 p.m. in Foulayrones, in Agen, the first awareness and prevention conference on concussions among amateur athletes will take place. A meeting organized by Green tech novation with the Alerte Concussions association, in which doctors Philippe Malafosse and Jean-François Chermann, specialists, but also representatives of the Vogo company and Franck Molina, CNRS researcher, will participate. A conference sponsored by former international Philippe Sella.

This conference is mainly intended to raise awareness and inform representatives of amateur clubs from different disciplines but also educators, physiotherapists, or parents of young athletes.

What is concussion ? What to do in the event of concussion ? Everyone's responsibilities ? What treatment solutions for victims ? So many questions that will be debated. A project supported in particular by the departmental council and the Olympic committee of Lot et Garonne. A first that will inspire others.

Antoine Semeria therefore chose to get closer to different sports federations to work hand in hand on raising awareness about concussions.

Supported by Mathieu Blin

The three main pillars of the association are to allow victims to exchange with each other, whatever the level, sport, gender… Allow equal access to health for all by creating a pool of competent doctors (neurologists, vestibular physiotherapists, occupational therapists…). The third pillar is to raise awareness and prevent on this particular subject by carrying out campaigns and helping educators, informing licensees.

"I don’ have the impression that there is a real awareness among amateurs. Everyone has their own protocol, it’s quite disparate depending on the federation. There are sports in which we will have to put our noses into", continues Antoine Semeria.

The association, still young, is supported in particular by Mathieu Blin, former international and ex-manager of Agen. It is therefore trying to develop to best help concussion victims.
