Archery: the women of AC Nîmes (re) take power

The Nîmes girls Tincu, Jangnas, Florent and Gaubil were French club champions last weekend in Boé. MIDI LIBRE

French club championship/D1. The Nîmes archers dominated the final competition last weekend in Boé, near Agen. The boys are 6th.

“They were very, very strong.” Word of the sports director. Olivier Grillat, the handyman at the Arc-club de Nîmes, had a great weekend despite the, quite logical, poor performance of his men's team (read below) & ;nbsp;: the women were crowned French club champions on Sunday in Boé, near Agen.

And with the manner: firsts (out of 16) of D1 at the end of the 30 matches of the regular season (with 24 victories), the Gardois dispatched the 4th, Riom, in the semi-final: success 6 sets to 0. Before completing their work by winning 6-2 in the final against Issy-les-Moulineaux, 3rd in the first phase and winner of Brignais (2nd) in the other half.

Fifth national title of the ACN for girls

After the disappointment of the defeat in the final of the 2023 championship, the ACN archers were only there for the title. Mission accomplished for Mélanie Gaubil, Anaëlle Florent, Maïa Tincu and the Swede Erika Jangnas, very regular during this D12024.

This is the 17th podium and the 5th coronation for the Nîmes women. The last one dated from 2021. They are thus ahead of their male colleagues (4 titles). And this despite the absence of their number one, Victoria Sébastian, in the middle of a battle, with the France collective, for an Olympic qualification.

Qualified for the European Club Cup

"It’s great, especially after the play-off defeat in the 2023 final. I am very satisfied with the behavior of this team, appreciated their coach, Lionel Allasio. The girls, throughout these last two days of competition, were very supportive and combative. They erased the 2023 defeat without trembling by dominating the regular season then mastering the half and the final. This result is logical in view of the level of performance and consistency of this entire female collective."

As a result, the Gardoises are qualified (just like the boys, 2023 French club champions) for the European Club Cup, which will take place in October in Bulgaria, in Ruse. Hoping that they are again "very, very strong".

Without its shock trio, the men’s team failed to reach the semi-finals

MENWithout his shock trio Valladont – Addis (both in full preparation for the Olympics) – Plihon (injured) for this final weekend, the mission was expected to be complicated, if not impossible. Nîmes therefore abandonedé its title 2023 à Clermont-Ferrand on the verge of the semi-finals.

With 22 victories in 30 days, the ACN ranked first in the rankings. 3rd, but &agrav; equality with 3 other clubs. And finally éeliminatedé at goal average (6th).

"Les garçons (Bariteaud, Aubert and the Ivorian Eyéni) gaveé their maximum but without our three best elements, we would have needed a little success, conceded coach Olivier Grillat. The big regret is our last defeat, in the play-off against Rennes, by one point. Otherwise, we were in half…" The door was closed.
