L’Union Européenne va bientôt mettre en pratique sa nouvelle législation visant à améliorer la sécurité des véhicules neufs. Elle sera appliquée le 7 juillet 2024. Plusieurs dispositifs technologiques seront intégrés.

The European Parliament explains on its website that European roads are "the safest in the world with an average of 49 road deaths per million people. inhabitants, compared to 174 worldwide." The new legislation, which aims to achieve an even better record, is called General safety regulation 2 (GSR 2) and it will make cars safer thanks to a series of mandatory devices. This new feature will only concern vehicles ordered from July 7, 2024.

A game-changing list

If the intelligent speed adaptation system has already caused a stir, this new addition will not be the only one. Around 30 technologies capable of saving lives will need to be integrated into these new cars.

From now on, users will also have to deal with a drowsiness alarm in the event of the slightest loss of attention on the part of the driver. This alert will be possible thanks to a small camera installed in front of the driver. In addition, a tire pressure monitoring system will alert the driver at the first signs of weakness.

Alcoholstery immobilizers will also be installed to combat any accident involving alcohol, which is more serious than any other reason. Finally, a digital data recorder, modeled on a black box, will be intended to record and store information following an accident, being able to analyze parameters such as vehicle speed and collision force.

As the European Parliament reminds us, human error is “involved in 95 % of road accidents"< /em>. These measures should allow a clear reduction of this scourge. On the other hand, questions about the increase in vehicle prices due to these technological additions are still relevant.
