This Sunday, April 28, the performance hall opens its doors in the morning to welcome the 250 new arrivals from a constantly increasing population of 24,500 people.

Once is not customary, the Kiasma opens its doors on a Sunday morning to welcome, this April 28, some 250 new arrivals to Castelnau-le-Lez.

At the town hall, just opposite the large performance hall, the team led by Mayor Frédéric Lafforgue is mobilized – nine deputies present at his side – for this ceremony which, from 10:30 a.m., will bring together the majority of new residents welcomed into the commune each year.

The housing challenge

According to INSEE figures, the city's population stood at 23,469 inhabitants in 2020. With a regular increase of around 4% per year over the last fifteen years, we can estimate it today at 24,500 Castelnauviens. That’s almost 400 additional people per year.

As for the age pyramid, if retirees constitute a quarter of the population, it is the category of 15 to 29 year olds which is progressing the most, details INSEE&nbsp ;: this age group, at 17.2% of the total population in 2009, practically stabilizes at 22% in 2014 and 2020.

These figures, while they reflect the real attractiveness of Castelnau, underline the housing problem. From 2,605 housing units in 1968 with an average density of 731 inhabitants per km2, the commune increased to 12,642 units in 2020, or a density of 2,100,ha./km2. On a roughly equivalent territory! A real challenge for Frédéric Lafforgue and his team.

In addition to the morning entertainment provided by Olivier Biscaye, editorial director of Midi Libre, our title will also be present at Kiasma to present several information offers to new Castelnauvians. Sami, on its stand, will detail various subscription options offered: digital, paper newspaper or both. A way to take a new look at current events in Castelnau but also in the region and the world.

Frédéric Lafforgue: “People come here from all over France. But also from abroad, because of the many tertiary companies in the town.” PCa

Frédéric Lafforgue: “Welcome well to live well”

How useful is this? such an appointment for people who already have a date. made the choice to live here ?

Frédéric Lafforgue : In “thiséwelcome’mony” , the most important thing is “welcome” ! Welcome well to live well. This also involves knowing the elected officials and all the services offered by the City.

What changes in population categories do you see from year to year?

The profiles are rather stable. Lots of young people, active young people but also students. And of course, young retirees.

And about the provenances ?

People come from all over France. But also from abroad, due to the numerous tertiary sector companies in the town. There are also Montpellier people moving around.

What major projects for the years to come? come will you present yourself this morning?

A new park every Easter Monday! After the Sablé this year, it will be the Pujol park, avenue de l’Europe, in 2015 and the Digital Parc in 2016, & side from the Frédéric-Bazille college. In the meantime, on July 4, we will inaugurate a 1,200,m2 square at Clos des Verdures. But above all there is the Jacques-Chirac school group, the extension of the Chaban-Delmas sports center, the integration of a school restaurant for each of the nursery schools and primary schools of the City, or the construction of the La Ruche nursery, near avenue de l’Europe. There are also structuring projects, with the Métropole: line 1 of the bustram or the metropolitan swimming pool, in front of the Pompidou high school.

How to ensure a suitable habitat proposal for these new Castelnauviens ?

We woné around twenty hectares on the perimeter of the commune, remaining the only metropolis town in the area. having preserved a third of its surface area in agricultural and wooded land! There was the creation of the new Eurêka district. And we are developing new housing pathways: for seniors, while the former Ehpad des Mûriers will become a residence with 72 housing units, for modest households with 12 homes in “real solidarity lease” which will be delivered this summer, or for students with specific proposals or even beguinage.
