Castres – MHR: “Playing a play-off is not the plan at all”, center Auguste Cadot determined to remain in the Top 14

“We are not going to hide our faces, we also have to be aware of our place,” notes MHR player Auguste Cadot. MAXPPP – Richard Sellers

Arriving at the start of the season from Biarritz, young center Auguste Cadot (22 years old) intends to do everything to prevent the MHR from risking its survival in a play-off match. Starting by winning, this Saturday, May 11, on the Castres lawn (5 p.m.).

Have you digested the defeat against Perpignan ?

In any case, we have to move forward, we are not going to repeat the match, but it’s true that it’s complicated. It was a very important match for us and the rest of the season, today we missed it. We need to raise the bar and look forward to future matches. But we still have a bit of a problem with it.

In your situation (13th place and play-off), do you start doing calculations, looking at what the other teams are doing ?

We have 4 games left. Today, whether we look at what the other teams are doing or not, we absolutely have to win. We must first focus on ourselves, on our performance. We can make a good move, we still have a small opportunity, we will take stock at the end. If our direct competitors play well, well done to them, we haven't been able to manage this season as we should before, but we still have an opportunity.

"We're not going to hide our faces"

This 13th place and the play-off match, do you think about it ?

He's in the back of my mind, that's for sure. Above all, it must be a motivation to avoid it. We don't say to ourselves that we're going to play it, because if we leave like that, we might as well let go of the last 4 matches and prepare for the access match, but this is not at all the project and it is not at all the ambition that the team has today, but we are obliged to do so. rsquo;thinking about it, we are not going to hide our faces, we must also be aware of our place.

The priority over these 4 matches, and with a view to the play-off, is to regain the confidence that you seem to have lost a little ?

Yes, that’s obvious. Afterwards, we'll see when the time comes, but it's never easy in play-off matches. We are playing a team in Pro D2 form. The pressure, I would say that it is more on the side of the Top 14 club. There are few teams, only Perpignan, who were able to beat the Pro D2 team in the play-off. We need to regain this confidence, that’s obvious. We have to win for morale, for everything, for confidence, for the end of the season, so as not to end in disappointment.

Personally, you keep score sheets. Is it a satisfaction?

Satisfaction… I would have always wanted to play more, that’s for sure (smile). But when I arrived, it’s true that there was significant competition in Montpellier. In addition, there have been very few injuries during the season, which is what causes the turnovers, and today we have great competition which has also made us progress. I was super happy to work with all the centers around me. Today, I have my chance, I was able to express myself on the pitch, I take what there is to take. I'm tackling the matches one by one, I'm very happy, but it's true that I want it to continue, and to be able to play even more.
