Citizen defense ambassadors discover military professions

Sophie Calley (in pink) alongside the rector Sophie Béjean.

Sophie Calley, principal of the Ada-Lovelace college, accompanied, with two teachers, Messrs. Gonzalvez and Ossedat, the students, belonging to the Citizen Defense Ambassadors program, to the Forum for military, defense and security careers in Alès. Students who, according to their words, returned "enchanted, with many useful thoughts for the future and life in society ".

“The 4th grade students, volunteers, get involved in a course alternating between discovering various institutions and meeting personalities, without forgetting participation in events and commemorations, explains Sophie Calley. In a workshop once a week, they prepare the events and their restitution, under the guidance of the two teachers who support them thanks to work in advance.”

As part of the Alès Forum, the middle school students attended the inauguration in the presence of the prefect Jérôme Bonet, Lieutenant-Colonel Mazel, head of the DMD 30 (Departmental Military Delegation) with whom the middle school signed an agreement as part of the citizen defense workshop, and the rector Sophie Béjean who did not fail to congratulate them, alongside the DASEN (Academic Director of National Education Services), Christophe Mauny, for their commitment. Also saluting the staff for their investment.

The young people were very impressed by the various professions discovered. In turn, parachutists (“The suit is too heavy!”), soldiers on missile launchers ( “It's not like on the screens!”), or even weapons operators perched on top of the machines.

This forum was an opportunity “to open up the field of possibilities in terms of orientation by presenting a wide range of professions, according to the words of the principal of the Mas de Mingue college. It also shows the importance of the school's link with institutions and values. This resonance reinforces their daily transmission, carried out by teachers and staff of National Education and has encouraged the overlapping of the two paths: citizen and future."
