The Prefect of Hérault and many elected officials were present this Wednesday, September 11 in Clermont where the city contract, QPV, was signed. The morning was also devoted to the inauguration of the Laure Moulin school, the new restoration of the school campus and the “Boris Cyrulnik” school medical center, in the presence of the neuropsychiatrist.

Signing of the City's Priority Neighborhood contract in the presence of the Prefect of Hérault, conference by Boris Cyrulnik, inauguration of the new school medical center named after the neuropsychiatrist who popularized the concept of “resilience”, inauguration of the new Laure Moulin school but also of the new “school campus restoration”… This Wednesday, September 11, in Clermont, the protocol was particularly copious, even invigorating.

The school lever

An official program that illustrates the path taken by the central city of Clermontais, "a city on the move", underlines its chief magistrate, Gérard Bessière. The cherry on the cake of a compilation of devices that support this trajectory, after the conventions “Small Towns of Tomorrow”, “the Operation for the Revitalization of Territories”, or even the Programmed Operation for the Improvement of Housing – Urban Renewal (OPAH RU), this final signature of the City contract (relating to a priority district of 3,300 inhabitants*) therefore comes“ensure the completeness of this package. This allows us to get closer to sources of funding. And we are very satisfied, in Clermont, with the financial aid granted to us by the State, the Department, the Region”, appreciates the mayor of Clermont who links the approach in particular to a desire to support academic success. “This is very important.”Hence the interest in having united, today, a City contract in a QPV district and the inauguration of school facilities”. “Clermont joins Lodève and Bédarieux who have this experience of City contract. […] I thank you, Mr. Mayor, for having fought so that Clermont could enter into this city policy, it was essential", greeted Marie Passieux, representing the president of the department, Kléber Mesquida.

Clermont at the crossroads of a population dynamic

“Signing a city contract, in a school, that's a beautiful symbol, continued the prefect of Hérault, François-Xavier Lauch. It is quite rare for a prefect to come to a municipality to sign a new city contract. This is a sign that we want this city policy to be dynamic. This city is very important in this department which has grown a lot in recent years. (For Hérault), the challenges of the future are a better distribution of populations, activities, public services, development in the noble sense. Clermont-l'Hérault is at the crossroads of all this. In the material sense, at the crossroads of motorways, as in the figurative sense in terms of population dynamics.

Priority Neighbourhood of the City

The district concerned, called the “city centre”, is made up of the area from the old centre to the edge of the Salagou college. Its population is estimated at 3,300 inhabitants, or a third of the total population of Clermont l'Hérault. “The system is gradually being built on major themes: secularism, academic success, relations with young people, health and the school medical center is a “key element of the system”, égrène Gérard Bessière, Mayor of Clermont.

And while the city of Clermont has high unemployment and poverty rates (despite a large number of businesses), the launch of these systems should make it possible to "ensure that these fundamental indicators change", concluded the State representative.
