Watermelons sold in Lidl stores across France are being recalled due to exceeding the maximum threshold for pesticide residues.

Watermelons sold in Lidl stores throughout France are recalled by the specialized site Consumer recall due to exceeding the limit maximum threshold for pesticide residues.

The fruits affected by the recall were sold in bulk under lot number L19-03. They were offered for sale between May 11 and 17, 2024 in several hundred stores across the country, the list of which is available on Consumer reminder.

"Evidence suggestive of carcinogenicity"

According to Rappel Conso, this is a "recall as a precautionary measure following exceeding the maximum residue limit on the molecule 'flonicamide'" : an insecticide used on aphids, whiteflies and thrips.

This substance has "been classified as having suggestive evidence of carcinogenicity, the results of the studies not allowing conclusions to be drawn and’ fully assess the risk to humans", explains the specialized site Sage Pesticides.

Do not consume them

If you bought a watermelon in one of the Lidl stores, you are advised not to eat it. You have until June 5 to return it to the point of sale and get a refund. A telephone number has been made available to consumers: 0800 900  343.
