This Monday, January 22, the maritime shipping company Corsica Ferries announced the opening of two new ferry lines. One will join the Balearic Islands, the other Corsica.

It's done! Two new ferry lines will open in 2024 from Sète. At the origin of this announcement, the company Corscia Ferries decided to connect the singular island to Mallorca, in Spain, and to the island- Redhead, in Corsica. The ferries should respectively set sail, for the first time, on April 10 and July 1.

The electrification of the port of Sète, a success

With this choice, Corsica Ferries, a 'low cost' shipping company, is setting out to conquer the western coast of the Mediterranean. Until now, its lines departing from the continent were from Nice or Toulon. This allows it to compete with Corsica Linea and its connections from Marseille.

With this anchorage in a new port, Corsica Ferries hopes to attract customers from the west of the country. "The port of Sète is ideal for bringing together the west of France and the Mediterranean islands. In high season, it is easily accessible from the Paris region thanks to the A75 which is free and avoids the traffic jams on the A7. It's a saving in time and CO2 emissions, it is written in a press release from the firm.

But the decision is not just a geographical factor. "The fact that the electrification of the quays of the port of Sète is already operational and that all our ships are already or in the process of being equipped for calls 0 emission was also decisive in the choice of this new port", indicates Pierre Mattei, president of Corsica Ferries, in the press release.

The details of the connections

Concerning the Sète-Mallorca connection, departures will be from April 10, 2024, then every Wednesday at 6 p.m., until the end of June. Arrival is expected around 9 a.m. at the port of Alcudia. The return will be at 6 p.m. in Majorca, with an expected arrival on the singular island at 8 a.m. The journey will start from 99 euros per person, based on two adults, two children and a car.

For the Sète-Corsica line, three round trips are announced for Mondays July 1, 8 and 15. Departure will be at 11 p.m., with an arrival scheduled for 6:30 a.m. The return will depart at 10 a.m. from the port of Île-Rousse and arrive at 9 p.m. in Sète. The trip will also start at 99 euros per person, based on two adults, two children and a car.

It will be possible to board the ferries with bicycles, motorcycles, cars or campers.
