Couple missing in Tenerife: Marc and Laura's car, whose mutilated body was floating at sea, has been found

The two Belgian retirees, who had lived on this Canary island for 16 years, had disappeared in strange circumstances on April 22, until the macabre discovery of the remains of the sixty-year-old on April 2. nbsp;May.

The investigation is progressing, but the mystery remains in Tenerife, where the police are trying to elucidate the circumstances of the disappearance of a Belgian retired couple, Laura Trappeniers, 66 years old , and Marc Olbrechts, 71, of whom there was no news since April 22, until the discovery of his remains on May 2.

This Saturday, May 4, it was the couple's car, an Opel Mokka which the Spanish police had not got their hands on, which was discovered near their home: "Good friends of the couple found the car themselves yesterday while searching the area", says Tessa Rens, journalist from VTM NIEUWS, who is on site in Tenerife.

A knife was seized from the car

"They found the car in a main street of a hamlet, not far from where the couple lived and disappeared. So they notified the police. The car was reportedly unlocked. A knife, sunglasses and clothing were also found in the vehicle. Police have now seized the car for further investigation."

Those close to the couple continue to wonder about what happened to their friends, whom they last saw at their yoga class on the evening of April 22. That day, Laura told a friend about having a problem with a tenant, who was to occupy an outbuilding located next to their villa, and who ultimately canceled her reservation, says the Flemish media.

Laura feared a burglary

"He was apparently not from the island and would have threatened it. She did not want to say more but it was clear that she did not feel comfortable says this witness. "Laura was afraid that this man would come and rob the chalet".

That evening, the alarm went off around 9:30 p.m. at their home, but the two Belgians were unreachable: the calls were made on their phones ring in the void. Still according to HLN, "at that time, a man climbed the fence of their garden and walked at high speed around the house. The man then sees a camera and tries to unplug it. But it is by unplugging it that the alarm is triggered. He then fled until around 1 a.m., someone was seen near the home."

The police have since been examining the images from surveillance cameras of several restaurants, hoping to find elements allowing them to understand what happened on the evening of April 22.
