Doggies and kitties, a real refuge in Nîmes for mistreated and abandoned animals

The Toutous et minous association was declared fifteen years ago now. Installed on the heights of La Cigale in Nîmes, in the Impasse de l’Aurore, it is an initiative of Gloria Féron, who is its president. "At the& ;rsquo;originally, my goal was to create a retirement home for abandoned animals, whether domestic or wild, she explains in detail."I have around forty "retirees" in the premises at all times. And I don’t just help dogs and cats; I also have, in my shelter, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, birds… Many live freely on the land."

Christelle, the star pig

Recently, she welcomed a little two-year-old pig, Christelle, whose owner was going to live in an apartment, and who received the honors of the press. He quickly found an adoptive family. "He was raised like a dog, specifies Gloria Féron, and has all the behavior. As soon as I had him as a resident, he created an incredible buzz; everyone wanted it. He had become a real star!"

Toutous et minous is a very small structure: Gloria Féron is the president, her husband is in charge of the secretariat, and a third person is in charge of the treasury. "We don't have many volunteers, notes Gloria, who does almost everything herself. I only have one ;help from a person, but who takes care exclusively of the kittens." Notwithstanding this situation, the dynamism is very present: "We manage to adopt 280 to 300 animals each year, mainly dogs and cats."

A call to host families

Currently, the association is hosting Olaf, "an adorable five-year-old griffon, neutered, identified and vaccinated male" for whom she is desperately looking for a foster family. "For the moment, I have only received one call about her , and he came from Haute-Corse, and it’s not nearby, which doesn’t make adoption easier. But we don't despair and we continue to search."

Gloria also participates in investigations for mistreated animals. Every year, the association organizes an open day and a garage sale. It is indeed essential to finance the purchase of food for animals "which represents a significant budget".
