European elections: the LR and RN lists almost completed, all that is missing is that of the presidential majority

Eligible places are now filled with the Republicans and the National Rally. Announcements expected this Thursday or Friday, from Renaissance and its allies.

European elections, home stretch and final sprint: by the end of this week, less than forty days from Sunday June 9, the date of the vote, the main parties will have revealed the composition of their list. This will truly launch the campaign in its most intense phase.

Because many uncertainties remained until then, particularly among major political groups, among the Republicans, in the National Rally, or among the ranks of the presidential majority.

Les Républicains: 31 names revealed

This Tuesday, the National Commission for the Investiture of the Republicans decided: after a meeting then a vote, the body of the party led by Éric Ciotti revealed the names of the The first 31 names are now at the top of their list for the European elections, a list led, as in 2019, by François-Xavier Bellamy.

Until then, only the identity of number 2 was known, namely the Tarn farmer Céline Imart, while it seemed certain that the general Christophe Gomart would occupy third place. The sequel, finally revealed, will have been the result of a long and difficult gestation.

For LR, 8.48% of the vote and eight elected in 2019

Indeed, by obtaining 8.48% of the votes five years ago (a result then considered terribly disappointing which had led to the fall of party president Laurent Wauquiez), the LR list had obtained eight seats. However, all polls, up to the most recent, give the right-wing party a score slightly below that of 2019. The latest Ipsos survey published on April 30 estimated it at 6, 5% of voting intentions, between 5.8%, at worst, and 7.2%, at best, taking into account the margins of error.

The places were therefore expensive. Nadine Morano and Brice Hortefeux, criticized internally where many of them called for a broad renewal, saved theirs (6th and 7th respectively), the surgeon from Nice and close to Éric Ciotti, Laurent Castillo, took 5th, and to the Breton and mayor of Vitré Isabelle Le Callennenc, falls 4th.

Disappointed people…

In view of the current polls, therefore, Guilhem Carayon (9th), president of Jeunes LR, or the outgoing MEPs Anne Sander (10th) and Geoffroy Didier (11th) can be seen as the losers of this investiture .

The most spectacular news concerns the mayor of Beaucaire, Julien Sanchez, also boss of the RN group in the Regional Council, where until then he embodied the main force of opposition to President Carole Delga. He occupies 17th place on the list, therefore in an easily eligible position, given the polls currently very favorable to the ex-National Front (credited with approximately 30% of voting intentions).

Jean-Paul Garraud in 5th place on the RN list

He has already announced that if he was actually elected, he would resign both from his mandate and from that of regional councilor. Note also that his lawyer, also from Gard, Sylvie Josserand is in 26th position, and that the former head of the RN list in the regional elections, the magistrate Jean-Paul Garraud, is firmly installed in 5th place.

Finally, let us note the presence on this list of another regional councilor from Occitanie, Julien Leonardelli, head of RN in Haute-Garonne, in 27th position.

Renaissance and its allies: almost done…

All that remains is to know the names of the candidates in eligible positions on the list of the presidential majority, apparently not easy to complete, since it is credited with 18%, at best for the moment, of voting intentions.

With a difficult equation to resolve, between the desire for renewal, those leaving to satisfy (there are 19 who want to leave out of 23 current elected officials), and the demands of five distinct parties. : Renaissance, which will take the lion's share, and its allies from the MoDem and Horizons, and those, with much more modest ambitions, from the Republican Party and the UDI.
