It was a surprise: the mayor of Montpellier Michaël Delafosse came to attend this inauguration and spoke during the ceremony. A.C.

If there was a need for proof of the recognition and respect that the artist Jean Hugo arouses, she was there, this Wednesday evening, June 19, on the square in front of the Médard museum, at the ;rsquo;time of the opening of the exhibition that the municipal building is currently devoting to him and until Sunday, September 22.

A cultural event called as soberly as it is intimately “Jean Hugo, the magical gaze – His life in Lunel from 1920 to 1984”.

The monumental work of Médard’s team highlighted

His children (six of the seven he had with Lauretta; Charles, the eldest, was unable to come), of course the elected officials of the City, including the mayor Pierre Soujol and the deputy for culture Corinne Poleri, but also – and this was a surprise – the mayor of Montpellier Michael Delafosse and the deputy for museums Claude Muslin, representing the mayor of Sète François Commeinhes, made up the audience of personalities who came to celebrate this highlight on the great-grandson of Victor Hugo which resonates in three places (*).

Bam shows on the life of the artist

The various speeches highlighted the fame combined with the simplicity of the man and the artist, notably that of the new director of the Médard museum, Valérie Dumoulin, who insisted on the monumental work carried out by the team for this local monument in the Lunel region.

It is also in the world of Jean Hugo and in his footsteps that the Bam company, from the association La Boîte à malice, took the public, during five performances. A highlight from every point of view and on all counts.

(*) To see at the Fabre Museum in Montpellier, from June 28 to October 13, “Jean Hugo, the magic gaze”; at the Paul-Valéry Museum in Sète, from June 29 to October 13, “Jean Hugo, between heaven and earth”. I subscribe to read the rest
