The program of festivities linked to the passing of the Olympic flame in Millau was unveiled this Monday by the City.

On May 13, the heart of Millau will inevitably beat to the rhythm of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The city of the glove is one of the more than 400 cities which will welcome the Olympic flame before  that she does not reach the final cauldron in Paris during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

In Millau from 8am

Lit this Tuesday, April 16 in Olympia, Greece, by the rays of the sun, it will be on the banks of the Tarn in the morning of May 13. It will cross the Millau Viaduct at 8 a.m. (closed to the public), before leaving the Parc des Sports for a popular crossing to Mandarous, from 8:40 a.m. After Aveyron, the flame is expected in Sète and Montpellier on the same day.

2500 children, 15 torchbearers

On this second stage, nearly 2 children from different schools are expected around the route to experience this moment and see the 15 torchbearers pass on the symbol of the Olympic Games.  "It’is an event that we wanted to be as popular and as inclusive as possible, introduced the mayor of Millau, Emmanuelle Gazel, during the presentation this Monday, April 15. Everyone who wanted to participate in the program was able to. It is as open as possible so that both sporty and less sporty people can find their interest, there will be something for everyone."

Millavois figures among the porters

Among the bearers, Thomas Richard and Natacha Burg, the two Millavois figures drawn at random during the associations forum in Millau. But also Danaé Gleye and Pauline Delavergne were among the lucky ones who will participate in this relay.

20 highlights, from April 17

On the sidelines of May 13, 20 highlights are planned to bring this moment to as many people as possible, from April 17. The reception of the "Parcours de la vie", a national operation to raise awareness about blood donation, will stop in Millau.

A cultural program

On the cultural side, the exhibitions will begin from 22 April with "History, sport and citizenship&quot ; at the Sud-Aveyron media library. From April 23, and until May 23, will be presented a "Photo exhibition of our champions", a series of portraits of the 21 high-level athletes from Millavois. The show Courir, will be performed at the Maison du Peuple Saturday April 27 .

Or the photo exhibition "This flame burns in me", by Gilles Bertrand, who delved into his personal archives of reports made during the Olympic Games. An exhibition to discover from May 8 in the town hall gardens.

Sports tournaments

On a sporting level, the week before the arrival of the flame in Millau, several tournaments will be organized, on registration. From Wednesday May 8, until May 12, with 3×3 Basketball at Place des Consuls (contact : olivierazzara.sombasket@gmail.com), rugby 5 at La Maladrerie onMay 9 (contact: accueil.somrugby@orange.fr), 4×4 beach volleyball Friday May 10 at the Golf café (contact: arjaga12@gmail.com), and finally football and handball at 4×4 (contacts: ecllrcouchot@free.fr for football and handballmillau@gmail .com for handball).

A rise of the popular Pouncho

Millau, town of outdoor sports, could not deny its identity around its emblem. Hence a climb of the Pouncho on 12 May, eve of the Olympic torch relay at 6:30 p.m., organized by bike by road, in trail (via the GR and the Pouncho chrono) or by hiking the Cade. "On site we will try to illuminate one of the take-off areas with everyone's headlamps", adds Gauthier Escalaïs, in charge of organizing the festivities.

All CE2, CM1 and CM2 classes of the community of communes will also be associated with these festivities with, from April 22 to 29< /strong>, 1000 children who will participate in Olympic and Paralympic sporting events at the Sports Park. On D-Day, there will be 2,400 (including 900 from outside the community) to attend the relay.

May 13, from morning to evening

On May 13, in addition to the morning passage of the Olympic flame, the City has planned for the festivities to last throughout the day, with demonstrations at the climbing hall and skatepark at the start of the convoy.

From 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., a show will be reserved for schools on the 200m² which will be installed for the occasion. From 4 p.m., images of the day will be broadcast on a large screen. The dance schools will take their place on stage from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for various shows where a sports show is also planned.

From 7:30 p.m., the street will take on a festive feel with bodegas, local products and music on Boulevard de Bonald and Sadi-Carnot, before “the big fire show”, at 9:30 p.m., on the Mandarous, guaranteed by the company Manda Lights. "It will be something very visual around the flame", promises Emmanuelle Gazel, the mayor of Millau.

Traffic will be cut off from the Pont du Larzac to the Stades roundabout on Monday May 13, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.; from boulevard de l’Ayrolle to Avenue Jean-Jaurès (at the intersection with rue Alfred-Guibert) from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 6 a.m. to midnight boulevard de Bonald, Sadi-Carnot near the Mandarous. It is strongly recommended that Millavois encourage cycling and walking to get to the festivities on this day.
