For the fifth time, the Amazons run to Saint-Jean-du-Pin for cancer patients

Le trail des Amazones se déroulera ce dimanche 18 février, au départ du foyer communal de Saint-Jean-du-Pin. 

There is a reason why the Amazones association trail continues to bring together hundreds of runners. Sports enthusiasts or not, old or young, they run to combine sporting pleasure with a vital cause: that of supporting men and women suffering from cancer. 

For its fifth edition, which will take place this Sunday, February 18 in Saint-Jean-du-Pin, a few kilometers from Alès. The event offers three races, adapted to everyone's level. For experienced runners, subject to presentation of a medical certificate, a 17.5 km trail is scheduled departing from the municipal center at 9:30 a.m. (registration 16 €). A second, shorter, of 10 km, which requires the same conditions, with a starting time at 10 a.m. (11 euros). Finally, an 8 km walk, departing at 10:15 a.m. (10 euros, free for under 15s).

Financing the well-being of the sick

"This year, we are expecting around 300, 350 people for the two races, and between 400 and 600 participants for the walk", estimates Etienne Patrick, president of the ' Amazon association, managed by the family. I think cancer is a cause that speaks to people. We are very transparent about our management of funds, 100% of the proceeds collected during the race will be donated to the well-being of cancer patients. We don't do charity, we try to interest people, adds the latter. 

And it is in the making of natural hair wigs, very expensive and not reimbursed by social security, that these funds will be invested. The reason for this action is simple: to help sick patients regain self-confidence, and at the same time, meet people. For this reason, this initiative is carried out in partnership with the “Coiffure by Ema" salon, located in the Hyper U shopping center on the Rocade. This collaboration allows patients to have a space for aesthetic care and promotes contact between people to the extent that it is essential not to be isolated during this ordeal. 

Other actions of this type allow, throughout the year, the association to raise funds to relieve cancer patients. Among them, the privatization of the municipal swimming pool once a month, or the distribution of gifts in the oncology departments of the Alès hospital during the holiday period.
