FREE NOON DEBATE. European elections: eight candidates from Occitania on the grid, which EU do they want to see emerge ?

Ce lundi 3 juin, au siège de Midi Libre, des candidats d’Occitanie en débat. Midi Libre – MICHAEL ESDOURRUBAILH

Which European Union do you want to see emerge: eight candidates, all from Occitanie, and each present on one of the main lists in the running, debated this Monday on Midi Libre.

Which Europe do you want to see emerge ? This is the same question that was asked to each of the eight debaters at the start of the meeting, this Monday, in the premises of Midi Libre.

"We want to make Europe a political power" began by answering the vice -socialist president of the Regional Council Claire Fita. According to whom,"We need more Europe and better Europe. A powerful Europe, sovereign in the fields of energy, industry, food, and committed to this ecological revolution that we need. A Europe of social and fiscal justice. For this, we are taxing the highest incomes, and we want to tax super-profits".

"We must rebuild Europe"

"We must rebuild Europe" pleaded the communist Yvan Garcia. He continued: "We don't want that of today, of austerity and social dumping. We are for a protective Europe, which plans, which works for peace, which pulls all countries upwards. A Europe of progress, emancipation, solidarity."

Béatrice Leccia wants "an environmental treaty"

Franck Manogil, representing the Reconquête ! list, immediately stated: "We want the European Union to defend European civilization. Against the greatest danger: the Islamization of Europe. Europe must be a bulwark against immigration. Social justice is not the priority."

Béatrice Leccia, for EELV, admitted: “Knowing if my grandchildren will be able to live on this planet, that's what scares me. The priority is global warming. Environmental justice and social justice are closely linked. We must create an environmental treaty, it would be our constitution. And no law or directive can be adopted if they are not consistent with this treaty".

"A Europe that protects"

The n° 2 of the Les Républicains list, Céline Imart, said she wanted "a Europe that protects with a positive vision. Above all, we want to debureaucratize: by removing two standards each time a new one is adopted. Europe must rediscover its destiny: migratory, economic, energy. We need an energy mix that is available to citizens at low cost and decarbonized. And nuclear power meets these challenges."

Valérie Rouverand, present on the list of the presidential majority, defended the results of the EU's action during the mandate in order to draw the portrait of “her” Europe : "Where would we be without Europe ?" she asked, evoking the vaccine purchases or the post-Covid recovery plan.

"Strong Europe, strong France"

"Today we have an asylum and migration pact that the National Rally did not vote for. The stronger we have a Europe, the stronger we have a France. A Europe that can defend us and protect our borders, and support our farmers" she argued.

Muriel Pascal, from La France insoumise, defended a"Europe of solidarity and cooperation which can harmonize from above everything that is environmental and social. It must also promote our food sovereignty. And this context of climate emergency and inflation would have merited a single list refused by our colleagues from the PCF, the PS and EELV. We are staying the course of the Nîmes program that Manon Aubry defends. And we are also for a Europe of territories, I am very proud to represent the least populated department of France, Lozère."

France "in a situation of imposing a certain number of things"

The mayor of Beaucaire, Julien Sanchez, in an eligible position on the National Rally list, affirmed: "France is a net contributor to the budget of the National Rally ;rsquo;EU to the tune of 12 billion euros per year : we are therefore in a position to impose a certain number of things, and French MEPs must defend the interests of France . We defend a Europe of cooperation and sovereignty, not a federal Europe of which we would only be a very small part. And we must be able to decide who comes home, who settles with us, that's part of sovereignty." And, on the economic level, it attacks notably "free trade agreements which bring our farmers to their knees".
