From the Orb to the cathedral, a path to discover Béziers from another angle

Le chemin reliant le Pont Vieux à la cathédrale Saint-Nazaire permet, en famille ou entre amis, de profiter de divers points de vue sur la ville et son patrimoine.

The escapade begins at the foot of the Pont Vieux. Built around 900 years ago over the Orb River, this bridge has recently been completely cleaned and restored, allowing walkers, cyclists and people with reduced mobility to enjoy a panoramic view of the Saint-Nazaire Cathedral in Béziers.

The starting point of the walk

Accessible all year round, at any time, the "Orb-cathedral" path offers a magical stroll towards the acropolis of Béziers. Recent work has enabled the creation of 348 free parking spaces in the Pont Vieux car park, making it easier to start the walk.

After a few minutes of walking above the Orb, enjoying the freshness of the river and the view of the small houses at the foot of the cathedral, it is time to start the rise of the steps which connect the Pont Vieux to the first elevator leading to the footbridge.

A breathtaking view

The song of the cicadas welcomes you to the Pierre de Bonsi footbridge. The flamboyant greenery of the trees and flowers guides you throughout these 210 meters of crossing. An enchanting viewpoint that combines the Saint-Jude church and the Saint-Nazaire cathedral in Béziers.

After a few steps through the vegetation, the second elevator appears, going up to the cathedral square and this time offering a breathtaking view of Béziers and its surroundings. It is a total of 42 meters of height difference between the Orb and the cathedral forecourt, and 218 steps to climb. A half-hour walk that also allows, once there, to make a stop at the old prison of Béziers which has been transformed into a hotel-restaurant.
