Her allergy was fatal: an 11-year-old girl bites into a slice of pizza at school and dies

She was allergic to dairy products. In January 2023, Emerson Kate Cole, an 11-year-old girl, was eating lunch in the canteen of her school in Texas (United States), when she bit into a slice of pizza and started to have a reaction, reports The Independent.

His condition quickly deteriorated

The little girl goes to the nurse's office but she is not there. Another member of the school called Emerson's mother and asked if she could give him Benadryl, a type of antihistamine. But the 11-year-old child vomited the medicine and his condition deteriorated very quickly. She then received respiratory treatment.

When the girl's grandmother arrived at school, the child had fainted. Worried, she performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until ;rsquo;upon the arrival of emergency services, who transported her to the hospital.

"I will never stop loving you"

The little girl died two days later in the hospital. "Emerson Kate Cole, I will never stop loving you", her father wrote after her death, quoted by < em>The Independent.

Legal action

The family recently filed a lawsuit against the school seeking an unspecified sum of money, claiming that the relief protocol provided for in this type of situation is not ;had not been implemented.

"If she had been given epinephrine promptly when she first began exhibiting her symptoms, Emerson would, more likely than not, have been killed. otherwise, with us today", noted a doctor.

The school declined to comment.
