“In a very critical condition”: Swiss junior cyclist in hospital following heavy fall at World Championships

Young Swiss rider Muriel Furrer, 18, is in a "very critical" condition after having a heavy fall during the junior road race of the World Championships on Thursday 26 September in Zurich, the International Cycling Union (UCI) has announced.
"Muriel Furrer was taken to hospital by a rescue helicopter. She suffered a serious head injury and is in a very critical condition", announced the UCI, which said it was "extremely concerned" in a press release.
Soggy roads
"At present, there are no proven facts regarding the course of the accident. Investigations by the competent authorities are ongoing", the body added.

The junior race took place on Thursday morning on soggy roads, while heavy showers fell on Zurich throughout the day.
