In Valras-Plage, beachgoers still have to wait before setting up

Usually all are already in place by mid-May. The owners of the four private beaches of Valras-Plage are champing at the bit. They are awaiting the renewal of the town's beach concession with the State. Lasting 12 years, it expired on December 31, 2023. Despite work carried out for several months, the document has still not arrived at the town hall: " There is a public service delegation so that the State grants the municipality a beach concession, explains Rémy Teillet, the general director of Services of the City of Valras.

A procedure which lasts several months

Launched during the first half of 2023, the procedure is particularly long: "There was also a public inquiry, details, among others, Rémy Teillet. It took place in April and ended in beginning of May. The prefect then issued the order granting the concession of the beach to the municipality." A very good point. Except before giving the green light to beachgoers, the City would like to hold the precious Cesame…

Four applications

Knowing that for its part, the municipality had also established a concession lasting 5 years for beachgoers. It was also coming to an end. Three months ago, through a call for tenders, the five municipal lots, granted on the beach, were offered to private operators. Only four applications were registered. They come from those that were already in place on the station in previous years, La voile verte, La rose des sables, L’oasis and La cabin bleue. Their owners have positioned to settle, again, in the places where they were in place. This was also recorded in the municipal council: "We are now waiting to receive the prefectural decree so that they can settle down. It was signed. It should therefore reach us quickly,” assures the general director of services for the City of Valras.

The document is expected in the days, even hours to come. Knowing that the owners of private beaches, who will logically record a certain shortfall, will not encounter the same setbacks in 2025 The beach concession granted to the municipality now runs for 10 years, i.e. until 2034.
