Incivility, criminal acts: the mayor of Aigues-Mortes steps up to the plate

Pierre Mauméjean does not hide his concern about the behavior of a group of minors. He plans to appeal to state authorities. Interview.

Pierre Mauméjean does not hide his concern about an increase in incivility and violence committed by a group of young people of around fifteen adolescents, &quot ;from different social backgrounds", he specifies, indicating that he has noticed a rise in the phenomenon since last March. He explains having been informed of a case of violent theft with several minors involved, committed last spring as well as a more recent case of attempted theft of a motorcycle accompanied by violence.

More broadly, the mayor of Aigues-Mortes explains that he has noticed groupings of young people, particularly in the city's CCAS sector, and an increase in criminal behavior (degradation, insults) in with regard to local residents.

Pierre Mauméjean indicates that he contacted the authorities and obtained mediators from the Departmental Council who intervened recently. The municipal elected official assures that he is "very vigilant and mobilized" on this worrying drift of these adolescents whom he fears will confrontation with the neighborhood could go wrong. Furthermore, he underlined the strong involvement of the gendarmes and the municipal police. On the other hand, he assures that he will have to appeal to the State authorities" if the phenomenon does not resolve. Situation to follow.
