Jousts: hard blow on the Saint-Louis in Sète, a major contender for victory forced to forfeit

Maxime Molto was one of the great candidates for victory. He will have to wait a little longer. MIDI LIBRE – Jérôme Belluire

Maxime Molto was injured this Sunday, August 18 in Mèze, he will not be able to compete in the Grand Prix.

The news is terrible for him, for the Sète aficionados and, more generally, for all lovers of the beautiful joust. This Monday, August 26, the Grand Prix de la Saint-Louis will be deprived of one of its greatest contenders.

Painful verdict

This Sunday, during the Jeune Lance Sportive Mézoise tournament, Maxime Molto felt a sharp pain from his first spear throw against Kévin Bayloc. And for good reason, he had just sprained his wrist. He then gritted his teeth and continued fighting. Until he was eliminated by his third man, Adrian Lisanti, after having played nine passes in total…

Back on the quay, the Sète native immediately went to have tests done and the verdict was no less painful: double fracture of the elbow, caused by the twisting of the forearm after the sprain. Immobilized for two weeks, Maxime Molto will therefore have to give up on the Saint-Louis. «  Over the entire season too», he adds. «  I'm not going to take the risk of hurting myself more in relation to work…  »

The Grand Prix on TV

The Saint-Louis will therefore have to do without one of the greatest jousters on the circuit. «  I put things into perspective, there are worse things in life, but it's still hard to take. On the other hand, I'm going to be selfish and go on holiday outside of Sète. I can't stay five days at the Saint-Louis with hundreds of people who are going to talk to me about this. It's too complicated. I'll watch the Grand Prix on TV… »

With 26 career victories, the double reigning French champion has it all. A track record, a devastating lance, a fearsome shield. And an aura specific to the greatest. And yet, the Saint-Louis has always eluded his arms. Cruel and unfair. This year, it will not even have allowed him to defend his chances. «  I give myself until 50 years to win it, so I still have thirteen left!  » Noted.
