Ligue 1: “A real and serious risk of confrontation”… OM supporters banned from traveling to Lyon

Almost three months after the terrible first leg in Marseille, where the Lyon bus was the victim of a violent stone attack and Fabio Grosso, the current coach, seriously affected, the supporters of the Lyon team OM are banned from traveling to Lyon. 

It was the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin who made the decision to prohibit the travel of OM supporters to Lyon, to the 20th day of Ligue 1, February 4 against Olympique Lyonnais, according to a decree published Tuesday in the Official Journal.

This travel ban is justified by "a real and serious risk of clashes between supporters of the two clubs" on the occasion of the meeting scheduled for 8:45 p.m. at the Groupama Stadium in Décines-Charpieu.

A decision without surprises

On October 29, a Ligue 1 meeting between the two clubs was canceled due to the stones of the buses of OL players and supporters of this club en route to the Vélodrome stadium by Marseille supporters. Fabio Grosso, who was then OL coach, was injured in the face by shards of glass, along with seven other Lyonnais.

"On Sunday February 4, 2024 from 00:00 a.m. to midnight, the individual or collective movement, by any means, of any person claiming to be a supporter of the ;#39;Olympique de Marseille or behaving as such, is prohibited between the communes of the Bouches-du-Rhône department, on the one hand, and the communes of Décines-Charpieu, Meyzieu and Lyon (Rhône), on the other hand", according to the decree published on Tuesday.

The Minister of the Interior had already banned in December a trip by OL supporters to Marseille for the match against OM rescheduled after the incidents at October 29, following which several investigations were opened by the Marseille prosecutor's office.
