L’épreuve comptait pour la première fois pour les Skyrunner World Series. Elle s’est courue ce samedi 18 mai 2024.

The organizers had counted on 2 hours 26 minutes for the first. The Swiss Roberto Delorenzi (Brooks Trail Runners) shattered the predictions. The native of Sigirino in Ticino completed the skyrace of the Tarn gorges, as part of the Lozère Trail and counting for the Skyrunner World Series, in just 2 h 19 mn  26 s. He thus consolidates his first place in the general classification of this prestigious world circuit.

His main competitor, the Spaniard Antonio Martínez Pérez (Asics Team), winner of the Skyrunner World Series in 2023, finished in second place at 1 mn 4  s.

"You had to be very careful"

From the start of the race, at 11 a.m., in the Gravière parking lot, in Sainte-Énimie, Roberto Delorenzi immediately took the lead of the pack of 300 runners ready to swallow these 25.5 km for 1 900 m of positive altitude difference. A position that he never let go of. At the top of the first hill, a stone's throw from the Boissets departmental area, he was already 40 seconds ahead of his first pursuer.

"It’was really a great race, said the winner just after crossing the starting line. arrival. I really enjoy these events with many climbs and descents. With the weather, with all the rain we had last night and this morning, the course was tricky. The descents were very slippery. It was therefore necessary to be particularly careful. This is why my tactic was to start hard, give my all on the way up, get ahead, and be more careful on the way down. In two weeks, I have the European Mountain Running Championships (European Off Road Running Championship, as part of the MaXi-Race of Annecy, May 30 to June 2, Editor's note) with the Swiss national team. It really wasn't the time to get injured. I'm glad it worked. The important thing was to win, even by a second."

Among the women, the big favorite, the Spaniard Oihana Kortazar Aranzeta (Salomon) took first place. It ends in 2 h 51 mn 58 s.
