Lunel: an exchange without political bla-bla on the menu of the first neighborhood meeting

Mayor Pierre Soujol, accompanied by several elected officials and technicians, went to the field this Wednesday, May 15 for the first of 6 operations “Closest to you”.

Neighborhood visit then public meeting: this is the new formula chosen by the municipality, until the end of June, to get closer to the people of Lunel. A formula called “Closest to you” that Mayor Pierre Soujol inaugurated, this Wednesday, May 15, by spending the second part of the afternoon in the “Lunel northeast” district, one of the six predetermined by its services (*).

A one-hour stroll

In this sector which stretches from the Sommières road to the west, to the railway to the south and to the limits of the commune to the east, a suburban district where the city has gained, in Over time, in the countryside, the mayor first took a one-hour stroll. For this first public meeting, the municipality chose the entrance hall of the Louise-Michel school and a sober “staging” favorable to trade. However, Pierre Soujol did not come alone. He was surrounded by no less than 8 elected officials (including those from works, security, education) as well as the general director of services, the director of technical services and the head of the municipal police. A comprehensive system which made it possible to respond precisely to almost all questions or comments for more than 1 hour 30 minutes. An exercise, without prior bla-bla and minimal after-sales service for municipal action, during which Pierre Soujol appeared at ease on all the files.

Numerous work requests

However, next time, a map of the area would be welcome. Furthermore, the discussion highlighted the need for technical services to have all the elements available on projects underway or planned in the short term in the sector.
Because, as the City could have suspected, there were numerous suggestions for work from local residents. Here to remedy a degraded roadway, there to resolve a sidewalk, parking or security problem… « We want to identify emergencies and define priorities », insisted Pierre Soujol, recalling that’ an emergency budget of 500,000 to 1 million euros; was assigned to roads every year.

The swimming pool "current 2026"

Among the many themes addressed in this district marked by the presence of the Ambrussum college, the Victor-Hugo high school, numerous sports facilities but also the Lidl logistics platform, there was first talk of the future intercommunal swimming pool. Pierre Soujol confirmed the scale of the project, « we are going from 600 m2 of pools to 1 200 » , and he announced the start of the demolition of Aqualuna this summer and the start of work on the future swimming pool «& nbsp;beginning of 2025 for delivery in 2026. »
Jumbled together, the elected officials were also questioned on public transport, incivility of all kinds, the absence of public lighting at night, the closure of a class, but also on the preservation of trees and the problem of waste sorting.
