Le médecin référent de la structure labellisée par les ministères de la Santé et des Sports a choisi Lodève pour passer sa retraite et s’y investir.
Professor Michel Dauzat moved to Lodève in 2018 to retire “full-time” with his partner. With the desire to invest and give time for others, particularly within the Lodévois multi-sports club (COL) which supports the Maison sport santé du Lodévois et Larzac (MSSLL) of which he is the doctor referent.
A useful and unifying project which took off in 2022
"I was head of the exploration and vascular medicine department at the end of my career and I taught at the university’ quot;, explains the man who was part of the very first class of medical students from Nîmes, in 1968. It was through Nordic walking offered by a section of the COL that Professor Dauzat met his president , Jean-Pierre Combes, who already had the Maison sport santé project in mind.
"This aspect of physical activity in the service of prevention for sedentary, invisible and precarious populations, interested me a lot. It is very useful and we carried it together by bringing together, thanks to Jean-Pierre's network, many local actors, adds Michel Dauzat. We took advantage of the confinement to write our project, make projections."
And obtain recognition in January 2022 from the Ministries of Health and Sports, before official labeling in December 2023.
An active retiree happy to have come to live in Lodève
Born in Nice, Michel Dauzat grew up and studied in Nîmes. When he retired, he chose Lodève, on the A75 which allows him to go everywhere, between Nîmes, Toulouse or Angoulême where he has ties.
"I was enchanted by the welcome, the kindness of the people as well as the landscapes and the extraordinary natural environment. I also like the history, the associative and multicultural dynamics of this city where very different populations live together" notes the one who posts on his photo blog and descriptions of walking routes that are shorter than existing hiking routes.
"This city brings us a lot and we feel good there. It is not recognized at its true value" insists with an outside view the retiree, member of the Nordic walking section of the COL and the University of Free Time where he gives courses.
"It was necessary to contact all health professionals, establish partnerships, hire a first teacher in adapted physical activity then a second, find volunteer doctors to ensure assessments during on-call duty at Luteva then guidance towards the activity that suits them, adds the MSSLL's referring doctor. The activity has taken off in 2022 and today we support 310 people, followed over time, with reassessments every 6 months. This is in addition to a training component for all those involved in the Maison sport santé."
In addition to Nordic walking at the COL, handfit with the ACL handball, other proposals will be added in 2024, cycling with the Vélo Club lodevois and dance aerobatics with the Tête en l’air association.
