“Montpellier is exemplary”: with 25% of social housing, Michaël Delafosse defends his action in the name of “solidarity”

Montpellier is preparing to host the 84th HLM Congress from September 24 to 26. With 25% of social housing, the City complies with the Solidarity and Urban Renewal Act. Thanks to a proactive policy, explains Mayor Michaël Delafosse.
Montpellier was chosen for the 84th HLM Congress from September 24 to 26. What do you think about it? ?
I am very proud that Emmanuelle Cosse chose our city. Our policy is exemplary with 25% of social housing in accordance with the SRU law. Retirees with small pensions, single women with children, by paying a third less rent, can access housing. It is a strong choice of solidarity. This congress will be a great contribution to the democratic debate for the government that will be appointed. If all cities did like Montpellier, there would be fewer housing problems in the country.
What solutions are being implemented in Montpellier to meet demand ?
Production of social housing, fight against slum landlords, rent control, reinvestment of brownfield sites, real solidarity lease…
What solutions for financing social housing that was undermined during Emmanuel Macron's previous term ?
It is true that Emmanuel Macron has made levies on the equity of social landlords, reduced APL and he has not banged his fist on the table on the municipalities that do not produce social housing. Here, we guarantee the loans made by lessors, we have doubled the stone aid schemes and developed the Solidarity Land Office which helps secure projects.
