Paris 2024 Olympic Games: why the educational kits distributed to all schoolchildren in France are causing controversy ?

As part of the Paris Games and by at least June, some four million students from CP to CM2 will receive an educational kit, including a booklet and a two-euro commemorative coin. An initiative which questions the teaching unions through its financing and is already creating controversy. 

Educational kits on the Olympic Games, consisting of a booklet as well as a 2 euro coin struck by the Paris Mint for the occasion, will be distributed to all students from CP to CM2 by the end of June, reveals Franceinfo this Wednesday, June 21.  Four million students are affected. 

"A shipment that must have cost a lot"

But barely delivered, the first kits, given to schoolchildren in Maine-et-Loire and Loir-et-Cher, are already creating controversy. Indeed, the teaching unions are wondering about funding "at a time when we are told that there is no more money to operate public services and in particular the public education service. 

"Between the currency itself, the printing of booklets, the delivery", she denounces& ;nbsp;"a shipment which must have cost enormously", while the government wants & quot;to make drastic savings and that there are 10 billion to be returned, s'revolts a school teacher Angers and departmental representative of the SNUipp-FSU union. 

Poor communication

The teachers also regret the lack of communication around the operation: the schools received an e-mail from the Ministry of Education on February 20 while the first deliveries were already received.

Another (small) blunder: the deliverables are signed by the President of the Republic and his Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, who has since become Prime Minister.
