On Monday, August 5, 2024, the director of public relations and communications for the Qatar Olympic team was scammed when he took a taxi on Avenue Montaigne in the 8th arrondissement. He was charged €1,500 for a four-kilometer ride.

An overpriced ride. On Monday, August 5, 2024, while leaving a restaurant on Avenue Montaigne in Paris, the director of public relations and communications for the Qatari Olympic delegation called a taxi to go to the Eiffel Tower.

An investigation opened

A police source told Le Parisien that the man who is staying in the 8th arrondissement of Paris for the Olympic Games did not stay in the taxi about ten minutes for a four-kilometer journey. The meter shows 14 euros to pay, and is paid by credit card, but he later realizes that he has been charged 1,499 euros.

A fraud investigation was opened after the member of the Qatar Olympic delegation realized the scam and alerted the police. Our colleagues added that the police station of the 8th arrondissement of Paris will lead the investigations.
