The Kremlin on Friday denounced "unfounded" from French President Emmanuel Macron, who assured that Russia was targeting the organization of the Olympic Games by disseminating information suggesting that Paris would not be ready.

"These are totally unfounded accusations", the bearer told the press – Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, assuring that these "are never supported by evidence". &amp ;quot;Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable", he continued.

Accusations gone badly in Moscow

Emmanuel Macron on Thursday accused Moscow of "feeding every day the fact that we could not do this or that, so it would be a risk", concerning the organization in France of the Olympic Games planned for this summer.

Relations between Paris and Moscow have been very tense for several weeks, against a backdrop of debates over the potential sending of French troops to Ukraine. On Wednesday, the Minister of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu took the initiative of a telephone exchange with his Russian counterpart Sergei Choïgu, a first since October 2022.

This call caused new tensions, Emmanuel Macron having subsequently denounced "baroque and threatening comments" of Russia which had said "hope" that the French secret services were not involved in the attack which targeted a room in concert near the Russian capital at the end of March. A massacre which left 144 dead and was claimed by the jihadist group Islamic State.

M. Peskov also judged on Friday "unfounded" the accusations of Czech Transport Minister Martin Kupka , who told the Financial Times that Russia had made "thousands" attempts to interfere in the functioning of European railway networks with the aim of destabilizing the EU.
