The apple pressing day takes place this Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the public garden.
The association of Vergers d'antan d'Aveyron is organizing its annual apple juice day this Saturday, October 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the public garden, under a marquee. “The idea is to allow individuals to make their own apple juice using an approved mobile workshop” the organizers specify. “This juice is then pasteurized and preserved in one-liter freshness-type bottles, which ensures a long shelf life. People can thus enjoy their apple juice in peace all year round."
Possibility of leaving with bottles of apple juice
People wishing to process their apples can bring them from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The apples and bottles brought must be clean and the fruit must not be spoiled so as not to compromise the processing chain. Full bottles will be collected between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Bottled apple juice will be available for sale.
“At the collection level, we have few apples for the moment and we hope that people will bring some,” comments Bernard Constants, treasurer of Vergers d’antan. “This year, the apples fell early. They ripened earlier due to the mild weather and the heat. There were also frosts in the spring and the rain prevented the pollination of the flowers. Apples also fell in the summer due to the invasion of codling moths, butterflies that lay worms in the fruit. Knowing that we do not treat the apple trees that we manage."
Fruit identification
A fruit identification session will also take place on site. This workshop is for people who want to know the variety of the fruit of a tree they own. The fruits brought, at least three, must be in good health so as not to bias the identification. Yves Caumard, a pruning professional, will also be present and will present his book. Not forgetting producer stands (local variety apples, fresh chestnuts, etc.)
