Pro D2: players from Béziers leaving and already avenues to replace them

Storti, Madigan, Bitz, Zabala, Espeut… Plusieurs joueurs ont annoncé quitter l'ASBH en fin de saison. Le club a des contacts pour les remplacer, à l'image du deuxième ligne Cameron Dodson.

Maxime Espeut, John Madigan, Clément Bitz, Giorgi Akhaladze, Jon Zabala, Raffaele Storti… In recent weeks, announcements of departures of players from ASBH to elsewhere ;#39;other horizons followed one another. On the other hand, apart from the arrival of second row Cameron Dodson, 27 years old, (2.01m, 116 kg), from Aurillac where he plays ;since 2022, Béziers has not yet announced the arrival of other players. At least, officially. Because on the management side, and in particular Pierre Caillet, we are working very hard on it.

Especially since the departure of most of those who will leave the club at the end of the season had been anticipated:"The contract of Raffaele Storti, who will have spent two years in Béziers, and who is on loan from Stade Français is coming to an end, explains&#39 ;coach. When we see his progress and what he is capable of doing, we understand that his Top 14 club would take him back. As for Jon Zabala and Giorgi Akhaladze, we knew from the beginning that they could leave at any time."

Financial clauses

Knowing that one of the clauses of their contract mentions that they can leave before the end of its term if they are recruited by a Top14 club. ASBH is there financially: "In return for their possible departure, we have issued this financial clause in their contract,< /em> underlines Pierre Caillet. If a club recruits one of these players, it must pay a certain amount. The money recovered will be used to recruit. It is true that finding players of this level is not easy. We have also chosen to look abroad, where we have several avenues. But these will not be players from the training sector (Jiff)"

On the other hand, the departure of Jon Madigan was not envisaged. Especially since he never hid the fact that he was in Béziers : "He leaves for Agen for a new challenge, a  another challenge, assures the coach. By going there, he also gets closer to the region where his partner is from."

The departures of Maxime Espeut and Clément Bitz, heartbreaking

The coach deplores the departure of Maxime Espeut and Clément Bitz: "I have known Clément since he was in the youth team, emphasizes Pierre Caillet .He was trained in Béziers. It is true that in terms of competition, he is a little stuck at the center position. He wanted more playing time and knew the situation would be the same next season. He therefore chose to go to Montauban, who assured him that he would play in the center. As for Clément Bitz, he is a basic man of the pack. We went to look for him in Narbonne, in the lower division. He leveled up. A player like him is a real asset. By leaving for Montauban, he moved closer to Toulouse, where he came from. Of course, I am disappointed with their departures. But I am also very proud for them."

The coach explains that everyone will be replaced: "We are on centers, notes Pierre Caillet. We also have a second line who has already played in Pro D2 and we have positioned ourselves on a third line in the making who is currently playing in National."< /p>

This start of recruitment is a continuation of the other seasons, Pierre Caillet being a fan of "hunting" to the rare nugget or to the old veteran in search of rebounds: "The biggest of our typical team will be there for two more seasons, he explains. We will have competitive training."

The young pillar Marco Trauth returned to Stade Toulouse which loaned him to Béziers. He was recalled to compensate for a lack of players in his position. He will return to Béziers in March.

On January 18, during the match against Provence Rugby, at half-time, in the locker room corridor, Pierre Caillet had a collision with Joris Cazenave, the Provençal scrum-half. Appearing before the League's disciplinary committee on Wednesday, January 31, the ASBH coach received a one-match suspension. Not being on the bench during the duel with Agen, he will therefore be able to be there, in Montauban, on February 9.
