A throne to defend, and an alchemy still to be found: Real Madrid, reigning European champion, is counting on the contribution of its star recruit Kylian Mbappé, who is gradually gaining momentum, to win a sixteenth Champions League, which it begins this Tuesday, September 17 against Stuttgart.

This quest, launched even before the celebrations of the "Decimoquinta" (the fifteenth C1), begins on Tuesday (9pm) against the Germans from Stuttgart at the Santiago Bernabéu, where all eyes will obviously be on Kylian Mbappé, for his big debut in the merengue jersey in the premier competition of European football.

"This is a very important match for me: as I said on the first day, I came to Madrid to experience this kind of evening. I am very focused on what we have to do, the Champions League has changed a lot, it is a new competition, and we have to win to start well”, explained the French striker this weekend on Real Madrid TV.

After his dream debut in Warsaw in the European Super Cup final against Atalanta Bergamo (2-0), the captain of the French team is gradually finding his feet within the Madrid team, collectively still a long way from his impressive level last year.

Stuttgart, last second in the Bundesliga

“I feel better with each match, I understand the needs of the team, my coach and my teammates better and better”, sums up Mbappé, author of four goals in his first six matches, including two penalties.

"I see him fresher, more active. He is really dangerous, he is progressing well, I really like what he is doing”, his coach Carlo Ancelotti estimated on Saturday, while the Bondynois had just produced his best individual performance, since his arrival, against Real Sociedad (2-0).

Against Stuttgart, runner-up to Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga last season but with a much smaller squad, the King of Europe, still deprived of Eduardo Camavinga, David Alaba and Brahim Diaz, will theoretically have enough talent on the pitch to impose itself.

The match between Real Madrid and Stuttgart can be seen on Canal + Foot from 9 p.m.
