366 days instead of 365. Like every four years, February 29 will appear. But who says one more day, says one more day worked and therefore one more day paid ? It's actually not that simple…

For those who anticipate a salary increase on their pay slip, do not put the cart before the horse… 

The principle of monthly salary payments

Most employees are paid with a monthly system. As the Ministry of Labor explains: "The monthly remuneration is an average calculated on the basis of the legal or contractual weekly work schedule. It does not depend on the number of days worked in the month.

A principle established by "the Labor Code which provides for the payment each month of remuneration determined independently of the number of days in the month&quot ; is intended to "neutralize the consequences of the unequal distribution of days between the 12 months of the year".&nbsp ;

Results: February pay slip will not change for most employees. 

And for the others ?

People who are paid by the hour and who are excluded from this monthly payment such as home, seasonal, intermittent or temporary workers will receive additional remuneration.

The glass is half full

Afterwards for those who would be disappointed by this lack of additional remuneration, they can say to themselves that the month of February is still the shortest so they are still winners compared to the upcoming month of March.

And the half-empty one

As for the others, they can support the February 29 Liberation Movement which is leading a fight to make February 29 a public holiday. A fight so far without victory, but which continues at all costs.

As a bonus

Even if the salary will not be increased this month, we must still think about a possible advantage on February 29: for those who benefit from it, this additional day falling on a Thursday this year gives the right an additional meal voucher.
