Schoolgirls from Sète meet Jodie, a woman in a male profession

Ce jeudi 7 mars, Enedis a reçu sur son campus de formation de Frontignan 35 collégiennes de Sète pour une présentation des métiers techniques, souvent masculin.

Perched like a bird on an electrical pole, Jodie Blackey, 42, a technician at Enedis, replaces the insulator of a high voltage line. The electrician wears a harness, helmet and gloves. Everything seems real… except for a few details.

"For many girls it doesn mind that it's possible"

The technician is not in our streets of Hérault but in one of the electricity network manager training campuses, located in La Peyrade. Around her, no trainees in training but 35 schoolgirls from three Sétois establishments – Victor Hugo, Jean Moulin and Paul Valéry – to discover technical professions. eve of International Women's Rights Day, the objective of the meeting was to present these so-called “male" and to deconstruct their stereotypes.

"For many young girls, it doesn't even cross their minds that it's possible to do these jobs" says Jodie Blackey, applauding the initiative. "We should do this for all professions where there are not many women."

Sexist remarks

The Montpellier woman underwent a total reconversion eight years ago, after having worked in arduous jobs in the restaurant or hotel industry. Determined, Jodie took a CAP in electricity and a professional baccalaureate at the age of 34. But back in the world of work, now in a very masculine profession, she encountered "sexist behavior."I discovered employees and a hierarchy who were not always open-minded. In a former position that I ended up leaving, I knew bosses who would not let two women in pairs leave in the field".

An exciting job

But since this misadventure, Jodie "does not tire of the job since'there is no routine.< /em>" Each terrain has its own specificities. Repair, renovation, new construction. Aerial, underground, bare wires, medium voltage…This Thursday morning, the message went to the school girls in Sète, including Ferdaous, 14 years old. C& #39;was a great discovery. From now on, it's one of the jobs I'm considering doing."
