“Single-parent family card”: preferential rates, new rights… what is this system that the Senate is proposing to create ?

A change for the most precarious mothers ? This Thursday, the Senate women's rights delegation suggested experimenting with a card ;nbsp;from a single-parent family, reports the Huffington Post. This will aim to support and accompany, particularly financially, but also to fight against the isolation and stigmatization of “solo” parents.

Rights and benefits

"You need to experiment with a single-parent family card, with preferential rates and rights", indicated socialist senator Colombe Brossel to our colleagues at Libération. The concept of this card would be similar to that of the "large family card".

"It's a card recognizing the status of a single-parent family, which would be a card that one would have the right to request or not& nbsp;and which would allow, for example, to have a certain number of rights or benefits attached", she clarified. But more concretely, what could these advantages be ?

The idea of ​​doubling the number of days off "sick child" is considered for example. "When there are two of us, we have twice three days, and when we are alone, we only have three days, she emphasizes. Some companies would like to work on doubling these days and on flexible schedules for single parents, and told us that they lacked a protective framework to organize this in their companies, emphasized the senator.

But this card could also facilitate access to leisure activities, social housing, childcare, mutual insurance, or even preferential rates for the canteen or transport.

The report presented to the Senate highlights the economic fragility of these families. "15 % of single-parent families who would be eligible, do not benefit neither from the RSA nor from the family support allowance (187.24 euros per month per child, paid in the event of failure of the other parent)", it is written. According to INSEE figures, poverty affects 45% of children who live alone with their mother.

"The two words that came up the most during the hearings were the words 'stigma' and 'isolation'", said. Béatrice Gosselin. This card also makes it possible to combat these two problems mentioned. As a reminder, in France, one in four families is single-parent, indicates Le Parisien.
