Snow, rain: heavy precipitation falls on Lozère, orange alert issued

Une alerte orange est émise par Météo France de 15h à minuit. Selon l'altitude, ce sera de la pluie ou de la neige.

This Saturday March 9, 2024, precipitation falls on Lozère, in the form of rain or snow depending on the altitude. Up to 100mm of rain has already been measured in the Lozère Cévennes in the last 24 hours. The Monica depression is also accompanied by strong gusts of wind.

While Lozère was already on yellow alert for rain-flooding, snow-icing, wind, storms as well as floods, particularly for the upper Tarn and upper Allier, Météo France is issuing an orange rain-flooding alert from 3 p.m.

Vigilance on the A75

The bulletin specifies: "In the Lozère department, we will note uncertainties on the rain-snow limit in the north of the department which could be &# 39;lower more than expected, and thus impact in particular the A75. Vigilance could then be worsened if it drops much further than expected."

Météo France also warns: "The rains already in progress tend to intensify in the coming hours reaching intensities of 10 to 25 mm/h, and it will be appropriate to monitor the associated accumulations, especially as they occur on already very humid soils."

Up to 200mm cumulative

The following accumulations are expected by Sunday midnight: 100 to 120mm over a good half of the south-east of Lozère, with up to locally 200mm (sometimes in the form of snow at altitude above 1300m, notably the Mont Lozère sector);  30 to 50mm, locally 70mm, on the Aubrac.
