The mayor of Barcarès Alain Ferrand placed in detention

#PYRÉNÉES-ORIENTALES – Arrested when he got off the plane on Sunday morning at Montpellier airport and placed in police custody as part of an investigation into favoritism linked to the Christmas market, Alain Ferrand, mayor of Barcarès, was referred this Tuesday, April 30, to the Marseille courthouse. He was indicted before being taken to the Aix-en-Provence penitentiary center. The manager of the company who would have benefited from the call for tenders was also arrested and placed in police custody. He was released under judicial supervision.

Double murder in Gard: thirteen people in police custody

#PONT-SAINT-ESPRIT – As part of a judicial investigation opened to investigate the double murder committed on the night of October 28 to 29, 2023 in Pont-Saint-Esprit, investigators from the Nîmes research section, under the direction of the investigating judge, made several arrests this Tuesday, April 30. Nîmes, Perpignan, Carcassonne…, overcrowded prisons

#JUSTICE –There have never been so many detainees. As of April 1, 2024, there are 77,450 people in French prisons, according to figures published by the Ministry of Justice this Tuesday, April 30. In total, 3,307 detainees sleep on mattresses. Another striking figure is that among these incarcerated people, 20,438 are defendants, awaiting trial. In the region, five remand centers have an occupancy rate greater than 200%: that of Seysses in Haute-Garonne (201%), Perpignan (206 .1%), Foix (207.7%), Nîmes (224%) and Carcassonne (242.2%).

#JOB – This is the main lesson from the latest survey “Labor needs” of France Travail: in Occitanie, as everywhere else in France, recruitment this year marks a decline compared to 2023. In the region, hiring intentions are down by 6.5% and the percentage of recruiting establishments drops by two points, to 28%. Half of the hiring projects concern short contracts, lasting less than six months. A third (33%) of planned recruitments are on permanent contracts.
