The 100 Most Beautiful Detours in France meet in Mende for their annual congress

Xavier Louy, general delegate of the Plus Beaux Détours de France association, was in Mende on Wednesday April 3. Midi Libre – Célian Guignard

The event will take place over three days from Wednesday May 29 to May 31, 2024, with the Georges-Frêche events space as its anchor point.

L’expression "it's worth the detour" applies wonderfully to the town of Mende. The prefecture of Lozère, with its rich heritage nestled in the heart of the Lot valley, is undeniably one of those small towns to visit, far from the beaten track. It is therefore quite natural that it appears in the aptly named guide to the 100 Most Beautiful Detours of France, published every year since 1998 and stamped Michelin. From Wednesday 29 to Friday 31 May 2024, it will have the honor of organizing the annual congress of this network, which promotes tourism better distributed across the territory.

More than a hundred people, representing some of the 107 other cities present in the guide, will be present to discuss their practices, participate in workshops or discover the riches of Mendoise and Lozère ."Michel Chapuis, the mayor of Puy-en-Velay, whose town is distinguished by its three stars in the Michelin Green Guide, confirmed to me that he would be present",< /em> announced Xavier Louy, the general delegate of the association of Plus Beaux Détours de France, passing through Mende on Wednesday April 3.

"Even more interest to come and spend time in Mende"

In 2021, after more than a decade of interruption, Mende regained its place in the guide to the 100 Most Beautiful Detours in France, for an annual fee of 3%. nbsp;800 €. "Each year, 180 000 copies of the guide are printed and distributed free of charge mainly in tourist offices. The contribution is used to cover all our costs, specifies the one who was, in addition, the director of the Tour de France in 1988.

Laurent Suau, the mayor of Mende, is delighted to introduce his city to future conference attendees and readers of the guide. "We have made a lot of efforts in terms of heritage, between the purchase of the synagogue, the construction of the Gévaudan museum and the restoration of the Tour des Pénitents and the ;rsquo;old pharmacy, he recalls. There is even more interest in coming to spend time in Mende.& quot;

L’edile n’do not forget the rest of the department : "We want to show what is being done better elsewhere in Lozère, such as in the Tarn gorges. Here, we are in wonderland, with different landscapes, climates and rivers within a small area. And the best way to discover them all is to stay in Mende."
