In the Women's Basketball League, 14th day, update on the statistics of Lattes Montpellier before its trip to Charnay this Saturday, January 27.

Statistics are important in basketball and sometimes help explain the dynamics of a team.
Currently fifth in the women's league, BLMA is having an average season in the championship with seven wins and six defeats. Exactly the same results as Charnay, to whom the Gazelles travel this Saturday (8 p.m.). But in comparison with last year's statistics, is Lattes-Montpellier really having a worse season than the previous one ?

Numbers before letters

First of all, the BLMA finished last season with five defeats in 22 matches, and had only two defeats in thirteen days. For these first 13 matches, the Gazelles have a lower points average than last year. The Hérault club scored 74.8 points on average during the 2022-2023 season while this season the score stands at 72.8 units. Yet with the best two-point percentage in the league (51.9%), the BLMA has quite a strong point just ahead of Villeneuve-d’Ascq and Bourges.
Apart from this observation, the BLMA has evolved its game. This season the Gazelles are trying more behind the three-point line (21 attempts on average) with less success (35.2% this season, 37.2%). The Héraultaises rely on solid foundations by being more efficient at free throws (83.6% this season compared to 81.8% last year).

Be careful of losing balls

Statistically, the BLMA displays a major weak point, ball losses. With 19.2 lost balls on average per match, the Gazelles have the third worst record in the championship.
For the last third of the championship, this will be the main axis of work for Valéry Demory's protégés, which could allow Lattes-Montpellier to aim for the top 4.
All these statistics can be explained by the fact that the championship is more homogeneous this season. Any team can win a match against a big team like Landerneau against BLMA (82-72). The Gazelles will, however, have to post good statistics to win at Charnay. The promoted team, having had a superb season, brought down championship leaders like Lyon and Basket Landes at home.

The BLMA group: Jenkins, Alston, Badiane, Touré, Linskens, Berniès, Naigre, Zemoura, Brun.
