“The club will take the most severe measures”: rugby players from Bourg-en-Bresse accused of rape during a trip

Players from the Bourg-en-Bresse Espoirs rugby team were accused of rape by a young woman. The events took place in Brittany following an RC Vannes match. A preliminary investigation for "rape" has been opened.

The US Bressane Pays de l’Ain (USBPA Rugby) team surrendered on the 13th. April 2024, in Brittany to face RC Vannes. Although the Bourg-en-Bresse team suffered a defeat, that did not stop the players from partying in the evening, on site for some, in bars for others.

A preliminary investigation

A few days later, a young woman went to the police station to file a rape complaint, according to L’Équipe . A preliminary investigation was quickly opened for "rape".

The club publishes a press release

In a press release published on Facebook, notably taken up by France bleu, the club undertakes to take measures against those involved in that case. "In order to protect the club, its licensees and its staff, and to avoid any confusion in this investigation, which relates to individual behavior, the club will take the most severe measures against -towards the people involved", we can read in the publication.

One player has already been excluded and several others dismissed or laid off.
