A shark in Sérignan

#HERAULT – Very unexpected meeting! Several vacationers were able to observe this Wednesday, August 21, a shark swimming calmly a few meters from Orpellières beach in Sérignan, in Hérault. A presence which is not exceptional according to Renaud Dupuy de la Grandrive, director of the marine environment for the city of Agde. This is not the first sighting of a shark on the coasts of the department. At the beginning of August, a four-meter thresher shark was caught by mistake while tuna fishing, off the coast of Palavas-les-Flots. In 2023, a two-meter mako shark was stranded on a beach in Marseillan.

"As a precautionary measure, the municipality of Celles has banned swimming in its municipality and that of Clermont l’Hérault in the supervised swimming area. The last samples taken on August 19 have been sent to the laboratory which is currently analyzing them to determine whether or not the cyanobacteria present in the lake are toxic."
