The Robuste II, Frontignan’s new archaeological boat, was inaugurated

The boat of the Frontignan Underwater and Underwater Archaeological Research Section was inaugurated at the end of April.

While several events were canceled the last weekend of April due to weather conditions, the event in Frontignan was maintained. And for good reason, it was on the water – sheltered from the marina.

Thus, some of the members of the municipal council attended the inauguration of theRobuste II, the new boat of the association Section of underwater and underwater archaeological research of Frontignan (SRASSMF) in the presence of Claude Béné, president of the association, volunteers , Marie-Pierre Jézégou from DRASSM as well as Laurence Serra, researcher at CNRS.

An effective association

Active for more than 40 years, the SRASSMF association is at the origin of considerable discoveries in the seabed off the coast of Frontignan, such as the only two Napoleonic wrecks excavated in France& nbsp;: the Robuste and the Lion. More than fifty people mingled in the sea spray from the marina for the baptism of the boat officiated by Brother Bruno Grégeois.

A caravel nail for the mayor

Note that during the friendship drink which followed at the captaincy, Fernand Robert, one of the three founders of the SRASSMF, offered a carvelle nail found during excavations to the mayor who, very moved by this gesture, warmly thanked the members of the association "who count neither their time nor their energy to contribute to the exceptional discoveries of the archaeological heritage submarine of our city".
