The oncology unit of the Kenval polyclinic located at the ICG ensures continuity of care during the Christmas holidays. Doctors and nurses try to bring good humor to families and patients. 

In front of the hall of the Gard Cancer Institute (ICG), three members of a family hug each other, their faces frozen by   sadness and  the gravity of the moment. Probably no good news inside. People come to see their sick or near-end-of-life loved one. The atmosphere is one of absolute sadness. Inside, the teams of caregivers  who remain on duty during the Christmas holidays try to maintain a form of good humor in the service. It'was the case  this Saturday, December 23, in the oncology unit of the Kenval polyclinic located at the ICG. In the department some patients were authorized to leave the unit to spend Christmas with family, others unfortunately have to remain. under medical supervision.

"You have to show a lot of empathy", Doctor Tamim Bouanani

"This is a difficult time for families, we are trying to be by their side. You have to show a lot of empathy. towards patients and families  and know how to manage  their emotion and their distress,” confides Doctor Tamim Bouanani who was on duty this Saturday. The Kenval polyclinic unit includes beds dedicated to care, end of life and palliative care, we learned. during an exchange with caregivers. Like Asmae who has worked in this world for almost 17 years and who tries with her fellow nurses to maintain a good atmosphere in the department. "Yes, we try to create a happy and cordial atmosphere, we laugh with the patients. Patients expect good humor,” adds another nurse.
