The uniform at school ? Where are the mayors of La Grande-Motte and Pérols

undefined

Everything is not stopped, far from it, in the experimentation with uniform at school. If Béziers has decided to put it in place as soon as the February holidays return, the two other Hérault municipalities concerned, Pérols and La Grande-Motte, are taking the time to think about it for September. nbsp;

"It came from a working meal with Gabriel Attal when he was visiting Hérault. He was then Minister of National Education. When the hypothesis of uniforms was put forward, tit for tat, I said that I was willing."

For Jean-Pierre Rico, mayor of Pérols, it is impossible for his town not to be part of the experiment. In Occitanie, there are only four, including three from Hérault: Pérols then, but also La Grande-Motte and Béziers, in addition to Perpignan.

"I accepted for several reasons, underlines Jean-Pierre Rico. Already, I am very attached to secularism. And also to erase the social differences between the kid who has 30 &euro jeans; and the kid who has jeans for 300 euros. This also goes in the direction of belonging. It's important to them. I see in the summer, when we provide them with t-shirts, for the party for example, the children are happy."

Still "lots of questions"

For now, however, not all the steps have been completed. Far from it."To date, I have received the heads of establishment. Participating in the experiment remains the responsibility of the school council, which ensures internal regulations. But to this day, there are a lot of questions."  What, for the moment, has been decided ? Not much except the budget allocated for this uniform. Or rather should we talk about an endowment. Namely 200 € per child: 100 € payable by the State, 100 € borne by the municipality. For Pérols, which has two school groups, only primary school pupils from Font-Martin are concerned. That’s 300 children. Which means a budget of 30,000 € borne by the municipality, which will be taken into account when voting on the budget. For what endowment ? Jean-Pierre Rico: "We are thinking about a winter outfit and one for mid-season. A skirt for girls ? I think we should leave the choice. You also need an outfit for sports, a change of clothes, perhaps Bermuda shorts for the summer…" For the sake of economy, the mayor of Pérols is putting forward a national purchasing center. "Otherwise, it will be very expensive!"

With or without the jacket ?

In terms of the content of the endowment, La Grande-Motte seems a little more advanced. Stéphan Rossignol talks about "five tops, one for each day of the week, two bottoms and two sweaters or sweatshirts." Unlike Pérols or Béziers, there are, for the moment, no jackets provided here. "The ministry never told us about it", underlines the mayor of the city of the Pyramids. "The jacket was never mentioned. There, we would no longer be on the same budget. And it is especially within the classroom that the outfits are seen. In the courtyard, they can wear their down jacket. "

His commune has only one school group: André-Malraux, which accommodates 145 nursery schools and 250 primary schools. The uniform experiment would concern all students. According to the same timetable as in Pérols: acceptance by the school council, the vote of the budget (40,000 &euro for La Grande-Motte) in municipal council for a put into practice at the start of the school year in September.

A political dimension

With one precision: a color is close to his heart: the blue of La Grande-Motte, a special blue. With perhaps another color, but which would also recall the city. For Stéphan Rossignol, volunteering to wear the uniform is obvious. In more than one way. "Already so that the children are on the same equal footing. And it's also a substantial help for parents. 200 €, that's a budget they don't have to worry about." He who also has the role of departmental president of the Republicans also sees a political signal: "I've always campaigned for uniform. Among the Republicans, this was even part of the campaign promises of François Fillon in the presidential election, and of François Barouin who defended him for the legislative elections. It's logical that an LR mayor supports this measure."

All that remains is to put it in place. At least to test.
